Meet Anita Merkel

Anita has worked in Food Services for 21 years. She works both sides of the kitchen, which includes cooking for the Sisters and doing dishes. I heard from a good source that she makes some great soup. While at work, she enjoys being around the Sisters and getting to know them. She went to Oldenburg Elementary School and had some of the Sisters as teachers. Knowing them now is different – she sees them more as just “normal people”.

Anita grew up in Batesville and currently lives on a farm just outside of Batesville with her husband. She has four children and two grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with her grandkids, gardening, and stitchery, especially working with felt around the holidays.

According to Anita, she lives a simple life and likes to stay in the background. We notice and appreciate the care she takes of the Sisters when providing meals for them.
