Meet Sister Timothy Kavanaugh

S. Timothy was born and raised in Beech Grove, Indiana, the fourth child of seven. There were five boys and two girls. Although she and her family stayed in Beech Grove, they lived in three different houses within the same neighborhood. She remembers their side yard being used to play many sports. She also remembers picking tomatoes and helping to dig out a basement for added storage for all the tomatoes and other vegetables they picked. She attended high school at St. John Academy in Indianapolis. Her brother did not want her to go to Beech Grove High School because it was not good for girls. She would give him a hard time later about that since he did send his own daughter there.

S. Timothy spent over 50 years in education, with 14 of those years as Principal of St. Gabriel’s School in Indianapolis. One of her greatest accomplishments came for her when she was Spiritual Director for a six-month program called Christ Renews His Parish. It was also good for her because it was more of a spiritual activity she could share with other women. She says her years in education taught her how to be patient and get along with everyone.

S. Timothy has been at our Motherhouse since 2007 and she is currently our Development Assistant. She is a tremendous help to the department by folding envelopes and putting stamps on mailings. She is very efficient and thrifty with this position. One time, to use up the many one cent stamps she had, she put 140 stamps on her envelopes to get the $1.40 postage.

S. Timothy also enjoys recycling and makes sure all her recyclable items are put in one of the bins on her way to the Development office. She also enjoys participating in the Move and Stretch activities and going to Mass. She knows all of the Sisters here by name and makes sure she greets everyone she sees along the way.

In her younger days, and some would say still today, she had a little bit of an ornery streak. During fellow Sister’s birthdays, she would instigate a prank that would usually put a dummy in their bed or something similar. She may have had to go to the office of the Mother Superior for one of these pranks. But it was all in good fun. You can see that “good fun” in the twinkle in her eyes. Sister Timothy is a blessing to have around as a Sister and Co-worker.
